Blog 1353: Winter Blues

It is that time of year again where the weather is rubbish and we don't see any sun, which brings on the winter blues, colds and flu. It's also tough mentally going to training when it's dark and then spending all day inside to go training when it's dark again. Last year we did very well at overcoming the winter blues with very fewsessions missed by swimmers due to illness.

The easiest ways of avoiding colds etc are to take extra Vit C and Vit D supplements. Vit C to help the immune system and Vit D to replace the natural source from sunlight ( Vit D is nicknamed the happy Vit). On Top of this there are always little things we can do ourselves to avoid colds etc. Dry your hair properly, wear a hat and gloves and wrap up warm in one of our very stylish Long Eaton Hoodies that are very good and very cheap. As with anything they are available from our club shop also known as Graham. You can contact him for hats, hoodies, t-shirts and training equipment on  0115 973 4620 or email him at graham@meadows86.freeserve.co.uk. Remember preventing a cold is always easier than curing one.

Stay positive and encourage your fellow swimmers. Give them a high five if they have done well and say well done so they hear you, as daft as this seems this will help combat the mental side of winter blues.

Blog 1350: Diddy league round up!

Last Weekend saw the final round of the Notts and Derbyshire diddy league competition, where both the 'A' team and the 'B' team were competing at the queens street! It was a good finish to year being able to watch both sets of swimmers compete incredibly well. The 'A' Team won a good chunk of the races, finally finishing in 3rd place, 1 point behind second pace. The 'B' Team put in some tremendous performances, beating the 'A' team in several races and claiming some good second place finishes on the night. Overall, The 'B' Team finished in a credible 5th place, not far behind Derby Phoenix, and shows great progression from their first round performance. As this is the final round of 2012 Diddy league, we will now unfortunately have to say goodbye to our bunch of 12 year old swimmers, who will be moving onto better things. You have all put in some great performances over the years, regardless of which team you have represented and you will be greatly missed! Many thanks to the parents, team managers, officials and volunteers who have given up their time in numerous ways to ensure we can continue to compete at the level we do.

Lets hope for continued improvement and success for next year!

If you have not yet received a letter about your revised Squad Fees, please contact me immediately.
If you did receive a letter, but did not manage to get your Standing Order changed before the September payment, please will you arrange to pay the difference. One of the ways in which this can be done is by posting a cheque in the box at West Park, in which case, please quote your Reference so that we can trace it back to you.

Thank you,

Blog 1337: Welcome Melissa

The club would like to welcome our new Development squad coach Melissa Blanchard. I worked with Melissa back down the A52 a few years ago and she was the first coach I worked under when starting out on my coaching career. Melissa brings with her over 15 years of teaching and coaching experience producing a long list of swimmers who have gone onto to compete at National and International events.
