Blog 3143: Malta

Due to only 9 swimmers expressing an interest, this event will not go ahead. The club hopes to return to a winter overseas camp next year, so start saving now. Details will follow.

Blog 3142: Rykneld B Grade Open Meet

I am now accepting entries for this Level 3 Open meet. This gala is aimed at swimmers currently in JD2, County and Midland Squads.

There are no minimum qualifying times but there are upper qualifying times and the swimmers entry time must be no faster than these times.

As this is a Level 3 Open Meet it will be on a first come first served basis so to enable us to have as much chance of getting accepted as possible I am putting a closing date for entries into the box at West Park of SATURDAY 11TH FEBRUARY. I will empty the box after training at 9am so please ensure any entries are posted before that time.

If your child does not have an entry time for a race they wish to enter, you will need to get a time from their coach and ask the coach to sign the form.

The entry fee is £5 per race plus the additional £1 per swimmer towards the coaches passes. We now have a Bank Account specifically for open meet payments so if anyone would like to pay to the account please contact me at swimsecretary@longeatonswimmingclub.org.uk

The details for the open meet are:

Blog 3141: Nutrition Education

The club will be running the first of 2 educational events on nutrition this Saturday the 4th February at 9.30am until 10.30am at West Park.

As nutritional needs will be different across the ages of swimmers and the level of training, sessions will be targeting different squads.

The first session will be for JD2 and County Squads.

The session will be delivered by Emma Keeton

I hope to see you all on Saturday

Blog 3140: Younger Children's training

Blog 3139: From Our President.

Following our very successful 20th Open I would like to thank every body for their valuable contribution.
I received many positive comments from the visiting clubs and swimmers which is all down to your commitment to L.E.S.C

Our guests, Tom Parr, Derbyshire ASA President, Liam Tancock and Peter Konawalik added to the occasion, spending time on poolside with the swimmers.

We had a presentation to Graham Meadows on his retirement after 36
valued years with Trident/ L.E.S.C; Graham has most recently run our club shop for us.

We had a wonderful cake in club logo and colours baked by our Bake Off Queen, Debbie Blaydon, which was well received by everyone.

So from me a big personal thank you to all of the L.E.S.C. family and here's to the next 20 years
                                          Keith Kelly President

Blog 3134: Help required Derbyshire County Championships

As with any Open Meet, the organisers need  a large number of volunteers to make the meets run smoothly. Derbyshire ASA are now requesting help on all days of the Championships across the following roles:

Competitor Steward, Health and Safety Steward and Door Steward

No experience is necessary and support will be provided to any new volunteers. Lunch or dinner will be provided for those who volunteer for 2 sessions each day. If you are interested in helping please e mail nga.sam573@virginmedia.com and state which sessions you are available for.

In addition DASA are also looking for licensed officials for all sessions - as it is a Level 2 Meet all officials need to be Qualified and Licensed. If you can help please contact ian@robmaran.force9.co.uk

Thank you

Blog 3131: Raffle Tickets

A reminder that Leeanne will need all raffle ticket stubs and sales by next Sunday

Blog 3130: Changes to 12 week tests

At the coaches meeting this morning it was agreed that the club would go from 12 week tests to cycle tests. This brings all squads in line with the clubs plans. The 200fr and 200IM time trials will either been done as usual or be taken from the results of the focus meet at the end of the cycle. This gives swimmers an opportunity to perform better on these tests. Doing this should help improve the flow between squads as we hardly ever see moves from tests 2. The new test weeks for this season will be week ending 9th April and week ending July 23rd (this is club championships so the 200fr and 200IM time trials will be taken from these results.)

Blog 3127: Helpers for Our Long Eaton Swimming Club Open Meet

As you will know our 20th open meet is on the 29th January 2017.

Running these events takes a considerable about of time and effort in organising and activity on the day and we need a very large work force to deliver.

If you have time on Sunday the 29th, especially if you have someone swimming on the day, please come forward and volunteer to help it is much appreciated by all of the swimmers.

Many of the roles we are looking to fill do not require any training or expert knowledge and you will get some of the best seats in the house.

If you can help please email chair@longeatonswimming.org.uk

Blog 3125: City of Derby Open Meet

A small group of swimmers took the opportunity to start the long course season and gain vital Long Course racing experience this weekend. The swimmers focused on the process goals again as we do at the start of every cycle and executed these extremely well. The fact that swimmers were focused on processes not outcome gave them the opportunity to relax and really think how they raced. This proved to be beneficial to the swimmers as despite only being back in training for 2 weeks they achieved personal best times, regional qualifying times and just missed out on a British Champs time in Hannah Cox's case by .08. The swimmers executed the details of pre pool, warm up, warm down, hydration and nutrition professionally and the behavior was brilliant.

Blog 3124: Malta Camp and Competition

This year the club have decided to merge its overseas training camp with an overseas competition. This is an exciting opportunity to add vital experience for any swimmer. For this to go ahead we need at least 15 swimmers. The cost will be between £650 and £800 this will include flights, accommodation and full board at a hotel near the pool, as well as the training sessions on the camp and entry into 6 events. Should a swimmer wish to do more events these will be an additional 5 euros each. The dates will be 16th till 23rd of April. The trip is open to all members of LESC over the age of 12. Please let me know by the end of the month if you are interested in going. The sooner we can book the cheaper it will be.

Blog 3117: League League R1 Round Up

Last night, the Leicester League team travelled to Loughborough for the first round. In a small pool with restricted poolside space, the team attitude was impeccable. Having two weeks off for the festive period and getting straight back into race mode could have proved difficult for the team, but the swimmers stepped up and pulled off some fantastic swims. At the half way point we were in second place, 11 points off the lead. However, the guys and girls pulled it back to finish still in second place, but with only 1 point off wining!
There was some of the best team spirit I have seen, it's fantastic to see and everyone should be very proud of their achievements last night. Keep up the great work in training sessions because it really does pay off.

Looking forward to round 2!

Our 20th annual open meet will take place on the 29th January at Queens Street leisure centre Derby.

To coincide with our open meet we hold a small raffle to raise additional funds to support club activities, please note that ALL funds raised through club events are used for the benefit of the swimmers.

Normally these tickets are sold by members of our club committee and squad reps, this year however we would like to try something new and ask every swimming member (non-swimming members are welcome to join in) to sell at least 1 book of 5 tickets, you can of course sell more than this.

Books of tickets will be distributed at training sessions over the course of this weekend and the early part of next week

Stubbs and money can be returned through your squad rep, the box at West Park or directly to Leeanne Mellor

Tickets are a pound each and prizes include 2 tickets to Cirque De Soleil, 2 tickets to a Nottingham Panthers game and a meal for 2 at Verve Grill
