Unfortunately I have been too tied up with club stuff to give the report the full attention it deserves. I will do a full report upon my return after the weekend. Blog 3241: Land Training Friday night National Squad

This Friday we are going to be doing a "functional" movement session. This involves a lot of stretching work to try and increase range of motion. A bigger range of motion will mean longer strokes and more distance per stroke. Some of you will of done some of this before however I would like as many as possible to attend. You will need a hard ball, foam roller heavy and light strength bands. This work will help in your pre pool and pre race routines.

Blog 3237: Nuneaton and Bedworth Open Meet

Long Eaton were split between two open meets at the weekend, one being the end of cycle meet at Nuneaton and Bedworth. Around a dozen swimmers attended this meet which saw lifetime bests being achieved in most of the events entered. What was even more pleasing was that several swimmers made finals, and stepped up from their qualifying heat swims despite a heavy schedule.

This is a necessary part of competition. Any high level competition, will require a qualifying swim and then a final swim. The competitors who step up will naturally gain the rewards, those who dont will not. So learn to build that mentality and resilience over time, and the best way to do it is by entering open meets! This was the end of cycle meet and it would of been nice to of seen a few more faces. We are now onto the last cycle of the season, where we have several midland qualifiers and more open meets to come, so lets enter these meets and finish the season off well.

Blog 3238: Lost Property

Could anyone that was training at Loughborough with JD1 on Sunday please check to see if they have picked up an extra float.

It is from Decathlon - is orange on one side and blue on the other and it belongs to Spencer Doherty.

Many thanks

Blog 3236: Diddy League Round One reults

Congratulations to those swimmers involved in the the first round of the diddy league. With so many swimmers missing, it was a question of whether we could still hold our own with such depleted numbers. But those swimmers who stepped in, swam their absolute best and the entire team produced some great swimming and showcased impressive skills during the entire gala. The next round is on May 20th, so please make sure you are available!

Blog 3235: Rykneld Open meet Officials Needed

Please see below from Rykneld Swimming Club:

This is a further plea to all attending clubs to see if they can rustle up any officials to help, we still need officials of all levels to be able to run the meet.

As things stand we are at serious risk of having to cancel the meet, despite many efforts to get us enough people on poolside to scrape through the licencing conditions.

In addition to providing lunch, we are more than happy to pay mileage to any officials visiting without a swimmer. Even if you have officials who cannot help, we would really appreciate it if they could pass the message on to any other officials they know at other clubs.

Regards

Stella Mitchell

Blog 3221: Your club needs YOU!

At our 2016 AGM in November I announced my intention to step down as chairman after this year and I extended an open invitation to members to join the committee or volunteer in some way.

The response to the call for volunteers has been great and we have a promising number of individuals in training to become officials as well as a positive response to volunteering to support club events and our participation in galas and leagues.

We have had a couple of new members to the committee as well, but as yet we have not been able to identify successors to key roles within the committee, including a chairman. These roles are essential within the club which will have a significant impact our ability to continue to function effectively let alone build on our recent successes.

There is time now to have new committee members co-opted and provide an effective hand over from existing volunteers to ensure a seamless transition. There is also a fantastic support network with a wealth of experience to help along the way.

Please give serious consideration to your ability to get involved in this aspect of club activity.

It is both an enjoyable and rewarding experience
