Following on from their fine performance in the first round the B team travelled to Eckington on Saturday to compete in the 2nd round of the Arena league. On paper the teams in this gala seemed to be stiffer opposition than in the first round, and with early results indicating a strong Etwall Eagles A team as the dominant club, Long Eaton were involved in a fierce contest with Litchfield, Eckington and Falcon A teams for second place.
Once again the swimmers all showed their competitive edge and as the gala moved to an exciting conclusion they held their composure to take the coveted second position. Pride of place must go to Open ladies team of Kate Williamson, Hannah Cox, Hannah Dowell and Chloe Tipping who finished with a points return of 41 (out of a possible 42) from their age group races. Contributing to this tally were Megan Smart and Beth Dennis, who joined the team to gain first place in the 6 x50m freestyle relay .
In conclusion this again proved to be an inspirational evening for the club, and made both Kaye and myself proud to be associated with Long Eaton. The only disappointment on such a rewarding evening was the fact that several swimmers left the poolside once they had finished racing when they had been asked to remain on poolside in order to support their team for the final (crucial) relay races.
