Blog 1901: Miami

As you will of no doubt heard on the jungle drums, we plan to go further afield for next years swim camp. Having spoken to other clubs who have done this type of thing, it is another level and they had an amazing experience. If we can get the pool and gym sorted at Pinecrest as DX did we'll be looking at going to Miami for 10 days. I would like to take no more than 25 swimmers, this would mean taking 5 members of staff being 2 coaches, 1 strength coach and 2  level 2 team managers. As with any camp it will be open to all Long Eaton swimmers over the age of 12 on the date of the camp (around 15th Feb depending on finding out if counties has moved again or not). Places will be distributed as follows, each swimmer will be scored by their coach and myself on Attendance, Attitude, Training Performance, Competition Performance, Land Based work including pre and post pool and Lifestyle, the highest scorers will get the first places. In a case of swimmers getting equal scores with places remaining, then those swimmers who have supported the overseas camp from the beginning will be selected first and the rest of the places will be subject to a random draw until the spaces are full. In other words you are going to have to earn your place on this camp as it will be special.

Once Swimmers are selected then all swimmers and parents will be involved in organising the camp through sub committees. The sub committees will work together to sort out, risk assessments, car/mini bus hire, hotel locations and booking, flight bookings, pool bookings, kit ordering, sorting transport to and from airports, social activities during camp and fund raising when done in a group these should not take longer than 5- 10 hours each. I will advise and guide on this. Any swimmer or parent not pulling their weight to help will get one warning and then their place will be given to someone of the reserve list should they continue to not pull their weight.
