Blog 2745:Adam shines at Nationals

Long Eaton were represented at The Winter National Championships by Adam Freundlich. He qualified for the 100 and 200 breaststroke, where converted times were quicker than British Championship qualifying times in most events. This is the highest level of competition and for Long Eaton to have representation there is amazing, even more so when Adam swam 2 lifetime bests to qualify for both A finals putting him in the top 10 swimmers in England in both events. The meet held at Sheffield is extremely quick and had a host of International stars competing with British Records tumbling galore, one went to Long Eaton based swimmer Kevin Wallbank as part of the mens 4 x 100 medley relay. Edward Martin, Emily Osbourne and Chloe Bates also qualified and swam lifetime bests at the meet under the Derventio banner and Hannah Cox had a swim off and just missed out on a place in the 50 Breast B final for Loughborough University. This was an amazing meet and anyone should want to be part of this competition. If you dont qualify its worth going to watch as the standard of swimming on show was world class. Adams 2 finals where he stepped up a place in both to finish 8th on the 200 and 9th on the 100 put Long Eaton well and truly on the map with many coaches asking how we had done it. There are 996 clubs in the ASA and in a table based on A final qualifiers Long Eaton finished joint 29th.

Helen Gorman elected to swim in the Welsh version of the event and came away with a silver and a bronze in the 200 and 50 Breast.

These results along with the great performances at Chesterfield finished off a tremendous first cycle this season.
