Blog 3007: Great start

2 competitive weekends into the season and LESC are looking great. Loads of really impressive performances in the pool over the 2 weekends but what was more impressive was the professional manor in which the swimmers conducted themselves. I asked a question of my squad at our squad meeting about what they thought made an Olympic Champion, they came up with lots of good answers but the most important one is doing the small details right daily. Over that last 2 weekends we got a lot of small details right. Turning up before time, having the appropriate kit, knowing the events and warming up properly for them, pre pool, post race recovery despite not having a warm down pit, setting process goals, understanding that early season swims very rarely add up to personal best performance and not being slaves to the clock, keeping the area we were sat in clean, relaxing between races instead of running about playing football, keeping hydrated, eating to keep fueled up, reporting on time for races despite not having a team manager, seeing the coach before and after the race, setting realistic process goals and buying into the processes, focusing on the process goals and achieving them even when tired. I could go on but I think you get the picture that there is more to swimming than what is done in the pool and we as a club were excellent at it. We are getting some great young leaders who are showing the age group swimmers how to behave and achieve success, you are credit to your club. Now is not the time to celebrate this though now is time to continue and push our every day details further and become even more professional and the highest standard setters around. Keep making your coaches proud.
