Blog 3279: A Pat on the Back

Having spent a lot of time on my coursework it has become clear how ahead of the curve and how well the club is set up. We do so much right in how we are set up and the things we do, its great. For example

Clubs should be doing pre and post pool - ours is set up for you all to do and you all have the information to do this.

We do not overload younger swimmers with lots of training hours forcing them to specialise early. This gives swimmers a chance to do multi sport activities and develop motor skills that are essential going forward.

We provide a progressive pathway through to the performance end of the spectrum either with our own club or through DX where appropriate, with a constant increase in training hours and sessions along with a well measured increase in training intensity.

We are skill based programme focusing on all 4 strokes right through to youth and senior level, with tests (next week is test week) on a regular basis to aid in moving swimmers through the club not solely based on chronological age.

Our retention of swimmers and the fact we have a full programme with swimmers staying with the club speaks volumes for our commitment to developing swimmers and giving them a platform to reach their long term goals.

All in all it has reaffirmed my coaching philosophy and how we do things at Long Eaton. Do well in test week everyone and smash the focus meet. The season has started brilliantly. Keep doing what you are doing, we are on the right path.
