Blog 3411: Calverton & Bingham Masters Open

Long Eaton Masters had a successful weekend at the CABSC Masters Open Meet, which had to be rearranged from a snowy weekend in March.

Martin James had PB swims in his three events of 50 and 100 Free and 50 Fly with a second placing in Fly and 3rd for 100 Free.  Julie Phillips had three first places for 50 Breast, 50 Back and 100 IM and a third place for 50 Free.  Mary Holland won all three events of 50 Free, 50 Back and 100 Free.  Ian Frearson, making his Masters comeback after a number of years, won the 50 Back and 50 Free and was placed second in 50 Fly and 50 Breast.  Leanne Atkins won both of her events of 50 and 100 Free.  Coach Maggi Tuck won all of her events which included 50's in all strokes, 200 Free, 100 Back and 100 IM.

Julie, Mary, Ian and Leanne all gained 2nd placings overall in their age groups, and Maggi Tuck was placed first overall in her age group.   These results came about following a focus on technique and skills which have started to produce improvements in times, which have rewarded the hard work put in by everyone.

In case you're not aware, the M1 is due to be closed this weekend in both directions between junctions 23a & 24.  The road is due to re-open at 3pm Sunday, but just to make National squad aware that if they are travelling to the Loughborough session on Sunday, it might be worth allowing extra time / planning an alternative route.

Blog 3407: Training cancellations this weekend Sunday 13th May

The following sessions are cancelled this Sunday (13th May):

Midland & County - QLC 4-6pm
JD2 - West Park 5-6pm land / 6-7pm pool

These cancellations are due to the Eckington Open Meet.

Blog 3406: Info for the Eckington Meet this Sunday

We have received the following email from Eckington:

We would be grateful if you would advise your members that Eckington Swimming Pool is a very small venue and the meet is full. We have 226 swimmers entered into the meet, and we need the parents/carers to be aware that we only have around the same amount of spectator spaces ie: 226.( This includes standing space on the balcony) Once we have reached the amount, which is set by the facility, we will not be able to allow any more spectators into the Meet.

Please also circulate the following as an addition to the previous email sent regard rules and handy tips!

  • When swimmers are called to the blocks, please ensure they have a towel, t-shirt and flip flops – we need to ensure the swimmers are dry before the exit the pool to avoid slips and trips outside the pool area.
  • Please reitierate that no rucksacks or chairs are allowed on the poolside or the viewing areas. Anyone seen with either of these items we be asked to remove immediately.( a small mesh bag or drawstring bag is acceptable for drinks, snacks etc)
  • Please ensure all your swimmers have the correct kit, goggles, cap, water (a must as it may be a hot day)
  • No swimmers are allowed in the viewing areas.
  • If a swimmer needs to exit the pool for any reason, other than to prepare for a race they must do so via the changing rooms
  • We have a number of swimmers who have allergies, including nuts, it would be appreciated if this could be brought into consideration when arranging snacks and lunches

In line with North East Derbyshire Council Photography policy, NO video, zoom or close range photograph (including mobile phones with a photographic facility) is allowed in the pool complex at Eckington Swimming Pool

Kind regards

Team ESC

Blog 3405: Open Water success for Chloe and Lauren

Chloe Blaydon and Lauren Wilcox were in Spain at the weekend competing in the OceanMan Open Water event. This was Lauren's first experience at this event and she competed in the 2k event coming home in 12th place in a time of 43.30

.

Chloe swam the 5.8k event in a time of 1.46.01. Once again, as in Spain last year, the dreaded jelly fish made an appearance at the 3k point , swiping her face and nose. She managed to carry on but it did  push her down the pack. However she finished in third place in the Masters Category which qualifies her for the World Championships in Dubai in November.

Blog 3400: Diddy League Round One Review

The Diddy League team travelled to Hucknall to contest in the first round of the Diddy League competition. Pitted against the winners and runners up of the past several years, this was always going to be a tough competition, and taking the third place spot was going to be the target for the evening. The Diddy League is a great introduction into competitive swimming for many young swimmers and builds a foundation for future success and enjoyment in the sport. There were many good swims throughout the night with several swimmers racing in multiple events and age groups. Long Eaton were pushed for the majority of the night by Arnold and Matlock, but in the end took the third position.

City of Derby 254, Nottingham Leander 215, Long Eaton 142, Arnold 120, Matlock 111
