Blog 3479: Junior Coach Programme

This weekend will see the end of the junior coach programme for this season. At the start of the season Lauren Searby, Lauren Wilcox and Oliver Tipping joined the coaching staff as junior coaches. Over the course of the season they have been mentored by all the club squad coaches, educated on periodisation, skill acquasition and development, stroke biomechanics, stroke and skill correction, session planning, swimmer profile development, stopwatch usage, assisted at galas, selected a team and ran the gala on the night and have taken an exam in all these areas. Their final mentoring took place at Loughborough University with Head Coach Andi Manley, where they worked with most of the countries top swimmers including, World, Olympic and Commonwealth games swimmers. From little to no experience at the start of the season to gaining in skills and confidence throughout the season these three young coaches have done the club proud with Andi saying, he had the confidence to let all of the coaches take a session by themselves, overseeing swimmers preparing for European Championships in the next two weeks. That level of trust and respect shows just how good and how far these young coaches have come following the programme. The club now has 6 coaches who have worked with internationals swimmers.
The club will be running the programme again next year and if it is something you are interested in doing please look out for further announcements.
