Blog 2019-79 Jd2 training

As you may be aware, Melissa is having some much needed time off. We are trying to cover every session. As it stands we are having to make the following cancellations.

Sunday March 31st land training is cancelled
Sunday April 7th land and pool cancelled
Sunday April 14th land training cancelled

I would like to take the opportunity to thank all the coaches who have stepped up to help out and keep the disruption to a minimum.

Blog 2019-78: Venue & time for Leicester League round 3

To confirm, the final round of the Leicester League takes place this Saturday 30th March.

The team will swim at Waterfields Leisure Centre, Melton Mowbray - 6pm warm up for a 6.30pm start.

Blog 2019-77: Last call for Sheffield No Frills entries

The entry deadline for the Sheffield No Frills Meet has been extended to this Friday 29th March.

This is a level 3 long course meet, open to non-Regional qualifiers from National, Midland and County squads.

Blog 2019-74: A great night for Team LESC!

What an amazing evening at Alton Towers Splash Landings! Thank you to all the swimmers for their impeccable behaviour which was commented on by the Alton Towers staff. Thanks also to the coaches and parents who helped to supervise.

Blog 2019-73: City of Leeds rejections - please double check

Please note the list of rejections for the City of Leeds Meet (Blog 2019-67) is version 2.  Some swimmers rejected on version 1 have now been accepted for swims.  Please double check the list to make sure of your events.

Blog 2019-72: Splash Landings Update

We have been advised by Splash Landings that some of the rides (Rush and Rampage slides), feature strobe lighting.

One slide will set off strobe lighting if the swimmer presses the interactive buttons on the slide take-off. With the above in mind, please let me know if your child / children have any medical conditions that we should be aware of in advance of Saturday by contacting me at: lesc.secretary@outlook.com.

Blog 2019-68: Eckington Meet - entry deadline extended (County, JD2 & JD1 squads)

We haven't had many entries for the Eckington Meet, so have extended the deadline to this Friday 22nd March.

This is a great novice meet for the younger squads and gives an opportunity to get times onto the Swim England database, ready for later meets where qualifying times are required.

Event outline / Timings

Saturday 23^rd March, 7.00pm-9.00pm
*Registration will be held in the Main Reception (near to the large deck chair) at 6.40pm. Your child/children must be signed in prior to entering the Waterpark.

Children will be allowed into the Changing Rooms from 6.45pm and access to the Waterpark at 7.00pm.

Before leaving Splash Landings, please sign your child / children out at the large deck chair in the Main Reception.

Travel

Sat Nav postcode:  ST10 4DB. Follow the signs for the last bit of your journey, as your Sat Nav will attempt to take you down a local farm track; especially if you’re coming down the B5417.

Parking

There is plenty of parking on site free of charge at Splash Landings.

Food and Refreshments

Please note that the café area on poolside will be closed. Refreshments are available at the shop which is in the Main Reception area.

What to bring / personal belongings / lockers

Swimwear and goggles (if required). Please note that goggles cannot be worn on the slides.

Personal belongings can be kept in a locker which are situated in the changing rooms. A 20p coin is required and is refundable.

Parents

There is poolside seating in Splash Landings where parents are more than welcome to stay. You will require an entrance ticket which is free of charge and can be obtained from the Waterpark Reception. Please note that shoes and socks cannot be worn on poolside. Shoe covers are available from the Waterpark Reception. Alternatively, there is a bar area in the Hotel foyer which overlooks the Waterpark.

Blog 2019-61: Lost Fitbit

I have been advised that a Fitbit device has gone missing from the boys changing room at Trent last Wednesday. Can everyone who was at Trent last Wednesday please check their bags in case they have picked it up by accident? If anyone thinks they have seen it, please contact me on lesc.chair@outlook.com
Can I also request that swimmers do not leave any valuables in the changing rooms. If valuables must be brought to training, please bring your bag poolside.

Blog 2019-60 National Land Training Tonight

Ive been ill all day so wont be at training tonight, its just a little sickness and high temp, fortunately it coincided with my annual blood pressure test, so I got into a doctor straight away. There will be no coach for land training tonight and Im just waiting on Alex to see if he can cover. Im hoping a lot of sleep ill sort me out ready for the morning.

Blog 2019-59: In house gala

We are going to run an in house gala on Wednesday April 17th. This will be for County, Midland, National and Senior squads. Swimmers will be split into 3 random teams and points award over the night similar to an arena league competition. This will be part of the regen week for Nationals and also whilst not a licensed meet gives an opportunity for our new officials to practice. If this is successful we would be looking to expand it to the other squads and make it a regular occurance to build team spirit and race skills. No commitment is needed as swimmers in events will be sorted on the night by the coaches during warm up.

We're really looking forward to a great weekend of racing this coming weekend 16th and 17th March, as a little bit of fun we've added the tag line "Shamrock Splash" - in order to celebrate St Patrick's day - if anyone would like to dress in Green/Orange and White then please feel free - hopefully Matlock will be awash with Green/Orange and White.  Listen out over the weekend for Shamrock Spot prizes too.

Blog 2019-56: Changes to training this weekend 16th & 17th March - All Squads

There will be the following changes to training this weekend:

Saturday 16th March:
No a.m. training (land or pool) at West Park for National, Midland or County squads

Time trials to be held for JD2 & JD1 squads 07.30 - 09.00am at West Park

Sunday 17th March:
No Loughborough session for National squad

No training at QLC for Midland or County squads

JD1 to train 4-5pm at Loughborough*

JD2 to train 5-6pm at Loughborough

The JD1 & JD2 sessions will again be time trials


These changes are due to the City of Derby meet taking place at Matlock.

*This session takes place at the University pool - LE11 3TU

Blog 2019-55: Code of Conduct

Following a few recent issues, I would like to take the opportunity to remind all parents and swimmers of the LESC Code of Conduct which can be found on the website under 'Conduct and Policies' in the 'Joining Us' area.

Any breaches to this code of conduct are taken very seriously by the club and will not be tolerated. I am very proud of the high standard of behaviours we encourage and promote as a club and would like to ensure we continue to maintain our reputation as a friendly and welcoming environment for all.


I also wanted to let everyone know that after the recent Asda Bag Pack, I received an email from the Community Manager saying he had received fantastic feedback from all of the front line staff about how polite, well mannered and well behaved our swimmers were and that they were a credit to the club. This is fantastic to hear - so well done to all the bag packers!!

Blog 2019-54: Nutrition and Sports Psychology Talks

At the most recent committee meeting a suggestion was made for the club to arrange talks for swimmers and parents on the subjects of Nutrition and Sports Psychology.
I would like to understand if this is something parents would be interested in?

The talks would likely take place on a Saturday morning at West Park after training, and would be open to any parents and swimmers from JD1 upwards.

Please note - entry times are needed for each event - please do not just tick the form to indicate you wish to compete.  Entry times do not have to be on the ASA database, however if an estimated time is being used, it must be signed off by the swimmer's coach before the entry form is submitted. 

Blog 2019-49: Officials need at Leicester Sharks Meet

We have had the following request from Leicester Sharks:

Thank you all for your / clubs entries, its looking like being a great busy meet.

As you know plenty of Technical Officials are required to make these meets a success.

Session 1 Saturday 13.00 till 16.30pm

Session 2 Saturday 16.30pm till 20.00pm

Session 3 Sunday 08.00am till 11.30am

Session 4 Sunday 11.30am till 15.30pm

Session times are provisional, however session 1: warm up starts at 13.00hrs and session 3: warm up at 08.00am.

As this is a Level 3 meet, we will be happy to accept Trainees for all levels to continue with their support of obtaining relevant practical experience, subject to qualified Officials available and meeting the Licence criteria.

As in previous meets, we guarantee a good view, free drinks and refreshments in between sessions, and expenses should you wish to claim.

Hope you can help support the Athletes for this meet allowing them to gain PB’s and obtain those final Regional qualifying times for the up and coming competition.
