Blog 2019-150 Overseas Camp

Following on from the success of last years mini camp, the social events we have had, the interest in this years mini camp and the improved performances, the club are looking at once again running an overseas training camp.

The purpose of these camps is the personal development of the swimmers foremost. The intense training is a bonus. Taking swimmers away from their home comforts and making them responsible for their day to lives aids in the growth as people. In the past we have run four very successful camps.

On the notice board from tonight will be a survey for parents to fill in. This will including timing, destination, cost and whether they want all inclusive or just accommodation. There are three main times to go that fit in with the training cycle, the first one is the start of the season however this is when we have our mini camp. This leaves October half term and February half term as the preferred options. as these fall in parts of the cycle where the boost in training will be most beneficial. Easter is an option however a lot depends on when it falls in relation to the focus meet.

Whilst these are school dates we are no limited to go exactly in half term and with swimmers coming from three counties hitting a half term that suits everyone is unlikely. Schools will grant leaves of absence for these kind of activities so if we go near half term you'll just need to ask permission.

Some factors to think about when filling in your preferences.

Weather is a key factor with the vast majority of camps being outdoor training, whilst we aren't looking for a tan, its not fun training in raining cold conditions or unpredictable conditions.

Activities, first and foremost this is a training camp and along with two sessions a day in the pool, one in the gym and individual and group tasks, there is a need for balance and a place that offers either evening or a day trip would be advantageous.

We will need at least one level two team manager as we need to keep the swimmer to adult ratio down to around 8:1 two would be better so without your help this experience will not go ahead.
