The first round of Arena League is nearly upon us. This is the National swimming league where around 10000 swimmers compete across the country. To be selected to represent your club in this competition is an honour and why we ask that the dates (published over a year ago and are always the second Saturday of October, November and December) are kept free. Every team member is vital to the success of the club, whether they are there to swim a 50 in a relay or several events, or not their preferred event. The teams are selected firstly off rankings swum short course in the last 12 months and then the fastest combination of individual and relay team events are selected, whilst coaches have input regarding current fitness levels etc. All in all, around 80 hours of work goes into the selection process and production of gala documentation, not to mention the hours given up by officials and team managers.
