Blog 2020 – 77 – Update and Survey Feedback

Firstly, we understand how disappointing today’s Government announcement is by giving no date for swimming facilities to reopen.

Swim England have launched #OpenOurPools campaign which is urging the Prime Minister to reopen facilities up and down the country as soon as possible. Please visit: https://www.swimming.org/swimengland/open-our-pools/

In the meantime, we will continue to plan for our return to the pool so when a date is announced we are ready.

Thank you to those that have completed the survey and for all of the feedback. We’ve had an overwhelming response with 95% of swimmers wanting to return to the Club once the swimming pools reopen. This is fantastic and the safety of our swimmers, coaching staff and volunteers is paramount and will be put first in all considerations whilst we plan for our return to swimming.

As mentioned in the previous blog, we are keen to keep you updated regularly. Conversations continue with the pool operators to ensure a smooth return to the pools, we’re in the process of finalising risk assessments and we’re formulating a return to pool timetable to support pool and land activity.

We are also working on our ‘Return to Training Briefing’ which is requirement of Swim England. The briefing will outline measures including:

  • Arrival and departure protocols
  • Activity pre, during and post pool
  • The standard of participants and the specific type of activity
  • Transitions between activities (e.g. from training sets to breaks)
  • The length of pool and width of lanes
  • The set-up of poolside space
  • Use and cleaning of equipment
  • Use of facilities such as changing rooms and dryland areas
  • Spectators
  • Lifeguarding and safety arrangements

Before returning to swimming, swimmers (over 18) and parents for under 18-year olds will be asked to agree that they have understood the requirements set out in the briefing and commit to adhering to them. Further details to follow.

We will at all times be led by the latest government guidance and regulations. Thank you again for your continued support.
