JD1 swimmer Hannah McCullough pictured below has just smashed a tough audition process and gained a Junior Associate place at the prestigious Birmingham Royal Ballet School. Well done Hannah. Remember if your swimmer has achieved anything out of the pool please let us know so we can celebrate our members success.

Bog 2020 -88 Outdoor Land Training

Blog 2020-87 Outdoor Land Training
To Clarify what was put in the email.
Whilst this is open to all members of the club the groups have priorities.
Family units will be put together.
The first two sessions will go to National squad swimmers first, the second two sessions to Midland squad swimmers first and finally the last two sessions will go to County squad swimmers first.
I will try to accommodate the requests for time slots where possible following the above allocation of spaces. At the moment I have received over 20 requests from all squads for the first session of 10 spaces, so as you can tell, the sessions need to be allocated to squads as described in the email.
Once the 60 available spaces have been filled. I will then allocate swimmers to a group and those groups will be as close to the squads as possible so people can train with their friends.
Where a swimmer has requested a specific time I will put them in that time slot if there is space, otherwise it will be as close to it as possible.
The first 60 swimmers will secure those slots for the duration of outdoor sessions. Should those swimmers be away during this period, they are to let me know so I can advertise their space for the time they are off so another member of the club may have access to it.
Dont forget that every week day morning there will be online training available to the entire club as well. Starting tomorrow morning at 7:30

Blog 2020-85: A Date to Return to the Pool
As you may have seen on today's government briefing, a date has now been announced when pools are allowed to re-open. This is the great news I'm sure we have all been waiting for.
The committee and the coaching team have been preparing for our return to pool training for a few weeks already and are continuing to work with our pool providers to ensure we can get everyone back in the water as soon as we can, whilst following Swim England's guidelines to ensure your safety.
We will be contacting all of you by email over the next couple of weeks with further details of what our return to the pool will look like, and new guidelines we will all follow to make sure we stay as safe as possible.
I would like to thank all of our members for their support of the club through this challenging time, and look forward to seeing you all soon.

Blog 2020-82 Outdoor training Saturday 4th July - National/Senior/Midland/County Squads
Just to clarify as we only have 60 spaces available on Saturday which is less than the total number of swimmers in the squads, you will need to email me to book a space. This needs to be done ASAP so I can sort the groups out and keep family units together, then notify people of when their session is etc.
Please do not turn up on the day if you have not booked a space. There are currently 21 spaces left for the morning.
You will need to bring your form with you on the day as these will be collected by the Covid19 Representative not the coaches.

Blog 2020-81 Thank you from The Trussell Trust
As you may know, Long Eaton and the rest of Derbyshire's swimming clubs came together in our event 'Step Sunday'. We raised a total of £433, smashing our target of £100!
Here is a message from The Trussell Trust:
"From all of us at the Trussell Trust, we'd like to say a huge thank you for all your fundraising. Thank you so much for all your hard work and for your generosity and compassion for choosing to do this. Congratulations are also in order for your incredible fundraising total! We appreciate every penny you've raised and every conversation you have started. Your support has never been more vital. During April 2020, food banks in our network saw a 89% increase in need compared to the same period last year, with a staggering 107% increase in emergency food parcels for children. You have helped the food banks in our network achieve a great deal in the last few weeks as they face this increased need and adjust to new ways of working. On behalf of not only the team here at the Trussell Trust, but also from each and every one who uses food banks, thank you.
With gratitude from the Trussell Trust Fundraising Team"
Well done and thank you to everyone who took part!

Blog 2020-79 End of Season
Hi all
Following on from the governments announcement yesterday we are going to take our summer break from Sunday 5th July to Sunday 19th July inclusive. This will replace the normal summer break in August. It has always been the clubs intention to have this break prior to any return to the pool but with the delay looking like it will take us to at least 20th July before pools reopen we are getting ahead of the game and taking the break now. Hopefully this helps our members with plans etc.
On Monday 20th of July we will return to training and hopefully this will then involve some pool sessions. Details of the return to training will be communicated to yourselves as soon as possible.
In the meantime keep engaged with the the online sessions and club communications.
Whilst this season has been cut short it was shaping up to be one of our most successful seasons to date. The improvements in the lower age groups in terms of both standards and numbers were pointing to diddy league success and having over 20 regional qualifiers going into the break with more on the verge of qualifying showing the strength in the upper age groups as well. The way we have come together during this crisis and supported each other just shows how much team spirit has grown within the club. All of which I want to build on next season.
On July 4th we plan on having an online party/BBQ. If its safe to visit your friends within the club to BBQ together whilst being online with other friends and families please do so. Hawaiian shirts and party frocks are the theme for the evening and if anyone wants to send in song suggestions I will get a playlist for the evening sorted.
So lets come together and celebrate the greatest season that never was!!

Blog 2020-78 : A Message From Our President.
Dear Members
Following on from the disappointing news that swimming pools will not be opening as we had hoped.
Spencer and his coaching team have been working closely with the committee to progress the swimmers safe return to the water, despite the set back they will continue to keep the swimmers fit and mentally prepared for our eventual return.
I would like to thank the committee and coaches for all their hard work during the past months and the the dedication they have shown.
I would ask members to continue supporting LESC and look forward to a positive outcome soon.

Blog 2020 – 77 – Update and Survey Feedback
Firstly, we understand how disappointing today’s Government
announcement is by giving no date for swimming facilities to reopen.
Swim
England have launched #OpenOurPools campaign which is urging the Prime Minister
to reopen facilities up and down the country as soon as possible. Please visit:
https://www.swimming.org/swimengland/open-our-pools/
In the meantime, we will
continue to plan for our return to the pool so when a date is announced we are
ready.
Thank you to those
that have completed the survey and for all of the feedback. We’ve had an
overwhelming response with 95% of swimmers wanting to return to the Club once
the swimming pools reopen. This is fantastic and
the safety of our swimmers, coaching staff and volunteers is paramount and will
be put first in all considerations whilst we plan for our return to swimming.
As mentioned in the previous blog, we are keen to keep you
updated regularly. Conversations continue with the pool operators to ensure a
smooth return to the pools, we’re in the process of finalising risk assessments
and we’re formulating a return to pool timetable to support pool and land
activity.
We are also working on our ‘Return to Training Briefing’
which is requirement of Swim England. The briefing will outline measures
including:
- Arrival and departure
protocols
- Activity pre, during and
post pool
- The standard of
participants and the specific type of activity
- Transitions between
activities (e.g. from training sets to breaks)
- The length of pool and
width of lanes
- The set-up of poolside
space
- Use and cleaning of
equipment
- Use of facilities such
as changing rooms and dryland areas
- Spectators
- Lifeguarding and safety
arrangements
Before returning to swimming, swimmers (over 18) and parents
for under 18-year olds will be asked to agree that they have understood the
requirements set out in the briefing and commit to adhering to them. Further
details to follow.
We will at all times be led by the latest government
guidance and regulations. Thank you again for your continued support.

Blog 2020 - 75 Returning to Swimming
As you may have seen, Swim England has published
comprehensive guidelines HERE
to ensure the safe return to water once swimming pools are allowed to reopen.
Please be assured that the Committee and Head Coach
continue to plan and are working together with the pools as we wait for the
exact date when we’ll be able to get back into the water. The Committee will
keep you informed regularly.
Whilst we know that returning to the pool will not be the
same as before, it’s imperative that the Club follows the latest guidance from
Swim England and the Government whilst we adjust to the changes.
We would like you to complete a brief survey by
Sunday 21st June, 6pm. Please check for an email from
the Club. This information will help shape decisions on how the Club will
reinstate pool training once facilities are able to reopen.
Thank you and we look forward to seeing you all soon.

Blog 2020-73 Step Sunday 31st May 2020
Following the success of the previous 'Step Sunday' on May 3rd, we are challenging other swimming clubs in Derbyshire to the challenge. This time around the target is 12.5 million steps between all the clubs, so we need as many people as possible to take part.
Remember, all the steps throughout the day count, everyone in your household's steps count and send us photos of you completing your steps in a colourful T-shirt or your LESC shirts.
Please email your step totals by 10am on the 1st June to: countysquadcoach@longeatonswimmingclub.org.uk
Lets try and beat our total from last time, but most of all have fun and enjoy it.
