Blog 1794: County 50m Championships

Last weekend saw a 60 strong team from Long Eaton compete at Ponds Forge at the County 50m Championships. Which saw a few swimmers competing in their first ever gala and most competing Long Course for the first time. This was a chance for the novice swimmers to gain vital experience and the more experienced swimmers to get early season Long Course racing in. I was extremley impressed with the skill level shown by Long Eaton swimmers and the professionalism shown. The way the swimmers handled themselves all day, eating right, keeping hydrated, supporting each other, generally keeping the area tidy, responding to coach feedback and respecting the team managers - you truely acted like champions on the day, keep it up.

Whilst the youth and senior swimmers focused on the process and not the outcome due to the phase of training they are in there was still alot of personal bests and times which were ahead of the sametime last year. The juniors and age groupers stepped up with great skills and nearly a 100% pb return on all their swims. All in All a tremendous day for Long Eaton S.C.

A big thank you to all that volunteered to make sure the gala went ahead and remember we are always looking for more volunteers to help, with the club paying for any training needed.

The B team have made the Division 3 North regional Final. If they come in the top 3 they will go through to the north south divisional play off and if they finish in the top 4 in that they will then be promoted to division 2. To celebrate the B team making the final we are producing 1 off T shirts for the squad and staff. If parents would like a T shirt to show their support then there will be a charge of £7.50 for these please fill in the sheet at West Park with your details. As this is a special occasion I will be picking all the swimmers from the last 2 rounds and maybe 1 or 2 to bolster certain areas that weren't available. That being said not everyone will get a swim but I would like everyone who has been involved to be on poolside to support their team members.

Blog 1782: ASA Cat 1 / Cat 2 information

If you are currently a CAT 1 Swimmer who wishes to compete you must upgrade to CAT 2.

You can check your current ASA Membership Category here:

http://www.swimming.org/asa/clubs-and-members/membership-check/

If you are currently CAT 1 now would be a great time to upgrade, particularly if you intend to compete early on in the new year, for instance at the Long Eaton Open Meet in January.  This might particularly apply to those swimmers who turn nine in the next few months, this being the normal earliest competing age group.

If you upgrade now , the fee will be £17.60 and will cover you for all competitions right through to the end of 2014.  The same fee and duration of cover will apply if you wait until the New Year.
Additionally the ASA lock the database at the beginning of December for the renewals process, at which time it will become more difficult to upgrade.

There are a few CAT 2 forms available on the notice board at West Park alternatively email members.lesc@hotmail.co.uk and request an electronic form CAT 2 to be sent to you.

Please complete the form and return with a cheque for £17.60, made payable to Long Eaton SC, and return both via the post box adjacent to the Trophy Cabinet at West Park.

Blog 1780: B Team Arena League

Following on from their fine performance in the first round the B team travelled to Eckington on Saturday to compete in the 2nd round of the Arena league. On paper the teams in this gala seemed to be stiffer opposition than in the first round, and with early results indicating a strong Etwall Eagles A team as the dominant club, Long Eaton were involved in a fierce contest with Litchfield, Eckington and Falcon A teams for second place.
Once again the swimmers all showed their competitive edge and as the gala moved to an exciting conclusion they held their composure to take the coveted second position. Pride of place must go to Open ladies team of Kate Williamson, Hannah Cox, Hannah Dowell and Chloe Tipping who finished with a points return of 41 (out of a possible 42) from their age group races. Contributing to this tally were Megan Smart and Beth Dennis, who joined the team to gain first place in the 6 x50m freestyle relay .
In conclusion this again proved to be an inspirational evening for the club, and made both Kaye and myself proud to be associated with Long Eaton. The only disappointment on such a rewarding evening was the fact that several swimmers left the poolside once they had finished racing when they had been asked to remain on poolside in order to support their team for the final (crucial) relay races.
Thanks to the team managers and officials for all their hard work. Also a big thank you to the parents for your support.
Gala Results:
Etwall Eagles A: 215 LONG EATON B: 175, Eckington 166, Falcons: 166, Litchfield : 164 , Braunstone B: 154

Blog 1789: Arena A team

A brilliant performance from our A team in the hardest 2nd round draw saw them miss out on the final by 14 points. Without the 2 disqualifications in the final set of relays we would of been in the final for the 2nd time in 3 years, once again showing the development this club is doing. Its now up to us to put in yet another strong team performance in the final round to assure we finish as high as possible in the league. Leicester Penguins who we beat in the 1st round won their draw beating City of Coventry with both teams making the final, at least we can use this as a measure of how well we have done without qualifying for the final.

Blog 1787: Gym Equipment Winter Sale

The club has a stock of exercise mats and stretch cords for sale. As land based warm ups are developing during competition it would be a good idea to have your own mat to work on at galas or even in land training at gym sessions. The stretch cords can be used in many different ways and are a very useful piece of equipment to have.

Please contact Graham if you wish to purchase either item.
Graham will also be at West Park on Sunday evening with a selection of Club merchandise, including a small number of the original Club Tracksuit, in various sizes and at rock-bottom prices as they have been discontinued by the supplier.

Blog 1785: Winter is here

One of the topics covered at this weekends England talent camp was self management for swimmers. This is making sure you eat right, recover right, prepare right and basically do everything you can to keep yourself healthy.

The immune system effectivly goes off line for 3 hours after training this is because your body's number one priority is to recover and repair its self from the effects of exercise. This is when you will be most vunerable to colds and flu. So as a swimmer you need to do everything you can to avoid this.

Wrap up after training, eat right, make sure you are getting enough Vit D, C and omega 3 to help your immune system.

To help you wrap up warm we have Long Eaton hoodies etc for sale.

Blog 1784: Named Orange Silicone Hats

I have had a few queries about a new order of named hats. We need a minimum order of 35 and the delivery timescale is around 5 weeks, so if we can get an order in the next couple of weeks, we should receive them before Christmas.

Please email me with the name you want on the hat and the quantity required.

The cost will be around £7 for the first hat of each name, with additional ones slightly cheaper.

Blog 1781: Thank You

Once again a successful Long Eaton Open Meet with some very positive feed back, especially pleasing to hear this from the swimmers that had travel from afar to take part in this Distance Meet and who say they will be back next year. We are obviously filling a gap in the swimming programme.  Thank you to all who helped on the day, especially to those who were there all day and did not have a swimmer competing!
January 26th is a date for your diary, the next Long Eaton Open Meet, where we should have twice as many swimmers and spectators. Debbie is already accepting entries, details on the Club website, and it is first come... and parents, please make a note in your diaries and perhaps a New Year's Resolution, to get involved. It is a good way to make new friends and an opportunity to learn more about swimming competitions.  See you there?

Blog 1780: Belper Marlins Round Up

The club took a strong squad of swimmers to compete in the Belper Marlins “Ghoul in the Pool” Open gala held at Queens St on Saturday 26th October. Once again the swimmers produced a number of encouraging performances, with many gaining trophies or medals for finishing in the top six. In addition, numerous competitors gained personal best times, with all swimmers showing determination and a competitive edge, especially when racing against fellow Long Eaton swimmers.
A measure of how successful the day had been was the announcement that Long Eaton had won the “Top Club of the Meet” trophy. Also featuring in the end of gala presentation awards were Mimi Roberts, whose outstanding racing earned her the “Top Female” trophy; and Alex King who received his impressive trophy for top male in the S14 classification.
Finally Bob and Kaye would like to thank the team managers and officials for all their hard work, and thank parents for their support.

Bob.

On a slightly sour note we would remind swimmers that the club is trying to ensure a professional image at all times and writing on each other is contary to this image particularly at open meets. face paint at team galas is acceptable within reason but messages that have nothing to do with team support are not.
